Officers were called to a property on Makohine Lane in Ōhingaiti at 3.25am on Sunday after reports of gunshots.

A man was transported to Whanganui Hospital in a critical condition and later died.

Detective Inspector Craig Sheridan earlier said inquiries were ongoing at several addresses in the area today.

On Sunday afternoon, police said they were “speaking with a person in relation to the investigation”.

“Police also believe there is no ongoing risk to the public.”

It’s the second homicide investigation announced by police today - a man died from gunshot wounds in Palmerston North after a shooting at 7.30pm yesterday.
